We focus on the whole person, not just the symptoms, and we are passionate about meeting your individual needs and goals for treatment.

Interventional Pain Management

Interventional pain management is an individualized, hands-on approach to treating both chronic and acute pain. We blend cutting-edge treatments with holistic therapies to alleviate your pain and help you get back to doing the things you love most. Conditions we treat include, but are not limited to:

  • Failed Back Syndrome
  • Chronic Pain Syndrome
  • Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS)
  • Diabetic Neuropathy
  • Phantom Limb Pain
  • Arthritis
  • Back, Neck, or Shoulder Pain
  • Knee or Hip Pain
  • Headaches
  • Shingles

We understand the debilitating nature of pain, and we know that conventional treatments are generally not long-lasting. At CORE, we believe in helping our patients discover their individual pathways to improved health. Interventional pain management techniques we offer include, but are not limited to:

Facet Medial Branch Blocks / Radiofrequency Ablations

A facet medial branch block is a fast and easy diagnostic procedure that helps locate the source of spinal pain. It can also relieve pain. If this nerve block eases your pain, we may recommend a radiofrequency ablation, which burns off the nerve for pain relief that can last for more than a year.

Epidural Steroid Injections

Epidural steroid injections are used to treat inflammatory pain in the neck, back, shoulders, or arms. They can relieve nerve compression caused by sciatica, spinal stenosis, herniated discs, and similar issues. The irritated nerves absorb the anti-inflammatory steroids, reducing swelling and pressure along with the associated pain.

Trigger Point Injections

Muscles can develop very deep knots that are nearly impossible to relax with massage and other external techniques. Trigger point injections deflate the affected muscle, quickly releasing the knots and providing almost instant pain relief.

Spinal Cord Stimulation

An FDA approved treatment for chronic pain in the trunk or limbs, spinal cord stimulation can work even when other techniques have failed. It delivers a continuous, low-voltage, electric current to the spinal cord, blocking the sensations of pain.

Meet the Doctor

Double board-certified Interventional Pain Medicine specialist and Anesthesiologist Dr. Shelly Sharma earned her medical degree at St. George’s University School of Medicine in Grenada. She completed her Anesthesiology training at Rutgers New Jersey Medical School in Newark and her fellowship in Interventional Pain Medicine at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill.

Dr. Sharma’s mother fell ill soon after her medical career began. This created a deep passion for treating each patient holistically, taking into account all factors in the patient’s life when developing an individualized plan and providing emotional and moral support throughout the journey to wellness. Dr. Sharma uses a multimodal approach, combining medication management with a wide range of interventional techniques.
