Facet Nerve Blocks and Epidurals

We understand how debilitating pain can be and how conventional treatments only last for a short time. At CORE Medical & Wellness we believe in supporting our patients to discover their own pathway to health. That is why we offer a wide-variety of Lyndhurst area interventional chronic pain management treatments for shoulder and joint pain, including Facet Medial Branch Block and Epidural Steroid Injections.

Facet Medial Branch Block

Facet Medial Branch Block is a diagnostic procedure used to locate the source of facet joint and back pain. The spine’s joints are called facet joints, which provide the spine’s flexibility. These joints may become damaged from age or trauma, such as whiplash, and arthritis can develop. The medial branch nerve provides sensation to the facet joint and this procedure is used to determine whether a specific facet joint is the source of pain.

While the nerve block is diagnostic, it may be therapeutic in providing pain relief. The entire facet block procedure takes less than 10 minutes. The duration of pain relief is dependent on each individual patient’s cause of pain, the extent of joint damage and the facet joint medial nerve’s reaction to the steroid. If the medial branch block provides pain relief, then the patient may be a candidate for radio frequency nerve ablation as a pain management treatment.

Epidural Steroid Injection

An epidural steroid injection is used in treating inflammatory neck pain and helps to heal a herniated disc. Steroids are an anti-inflammatory medication that is absorbed by inflamed nerves to decrease swelling and relieve pressure. Hence, they are commonly used to treat chronic inflammatory conditions such as rheumatoid arthritis, severe asthma, lupus and psoriasis. An epidural steroid injection is an effective pain relief procedure that can be tried before resorting to surgery.

Cervical Epidural

Cervical epidural steroid injection relieves pain in the neck, shoulders and arms caused by a pinched nerve or nerves in the cervical spine. It helps alleviate pain from compressed nerves, which are a result of conditions such as herniated discs, spinal stenosis, or radiculopathy.

Lumbar Transforaminal Epidural

Lumbar transforaminal epidural steroid injection relieves lower back and radiating leg pain. Steroid medication can reduce swelling and inflammation caused by spinal conditions such as spinal stenosis, radiculopathy, sciatica and herniated discs.

Trigger Point Injections

Trigger Point Injections are treatments used to decrease joint pain in our Lyndhurst patients. When knots or tension forms in muscles, trigger point injections are used to deflate the muscle and provide relief. CORE Medical & Wellness will work with you to provide the best option possible. Some options may include:

  • Piriformis Injection
  • Sacroiliac Joint Injection
  • Shoulder Joint Injection
  • Transforaminal Injection
  • Facet Joint Injections

Spinal Cord Stimulation

Spinal cord stimulation is utilized to relieve pain by delivering low-voltage electrical current continuously to the spinal cord to block the sensation of pain. In the United Stated, spinal cord stimulation is the most commonly implantable neurostimulation technology for management of pain. It is an FDA-approved medical treatment for chronic pain of the trunk and limbs (back, legs and arms). Please ask your doctor about spinal cord stimulation and whether it’s right for your particular situation.
